Mulhouse is an initiative to battle against the lack of interest in art among the general public. The general knowledge of art has, for decades, been dictated by basic art education, museums and upper-class curators.

Everyone knows the big, famous artists. Everyone can recognize the Starry Night, or The Night Watch, but knowledge about artists, artworks and art movements rarely stretches beyond these very basics. We want to break free from the customs of art education. Our number one goal is to make art as accessible as possible. We believe quantity is, in some ways, more important than quality. Especially in relation to how many people come in contact with art.

Of course museums and schools make an effort to provide art education to young people. But forcing students into museums, telling them which art is worth appreciating, will rarely result in sprouting new interests in art.

So we invite you to look at this selection of artworks. Do you recognize any works? Maybe a name. If you find something interesting, maybe write it down. Or visit the original artwork in a museum.

But most importantly, discover new art.
